According to UNICEF, Around 180,000 children under 5 years old die every year — roughly 500 a day — in sub-Saharan Africa due to diarrhoeal diseases linked to inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH),
Opaq aims to reduce this number close to 0 by donating 100 % of the transaction fees to building closed wells equipped with hand pumps.
Currently, nearly half of the global population without access to improved drinking water lives in sub-Saharan Africa and some 700 million people in the region lack access to improved sanitation. With a population which has nearly doubled in the last 25 years, access to sanitation only increased by 6 percentage points and to water by 20 percentage points across the region in the same period, leaving millions behind.
Ensuring reliable access to clean water for drinking and handwashing can reduce the transmission of the diseases. People lack access to safely managed water supply, and most of these are in Africa’s poorest regions.
Opaq`s managers team contacted The Water Project organization and agreed to donate them all the fees from the transactions made with Opaq.
They have an outgoing project, to drill for wells and equip them with hand pumps.
People in Kenya are walking great distances for water just because they don’t have dug wells. Opaq`s team goal is to donate the money for the charting, digging and building the wells, together with The Water Project organization , providing an supply of safe , clean and reliable water source to the children from different villages. Opaq will donate 100 % of the transaction fees. As the prince of the coin will get higher, more money will be available for the construction of the wells.
